Sustainable Home Swaps
It’s easy to overlook the impact of everyday household products, from cleaning sprays to toilet paper. We introduce microplastics, harsh chemicals, and excessive waste into our homes without realizing it. But what if there was a way to make small swaps that create a cleaner, more sustainable space, without sacrificing convenience?
We get it. Changing habits isn’t easy, and trust us, we hesitated too. But once we made the switch to more sustainable home essentials, there was no turning back.
The Blueland Switch
I was the first to leap, and of course, I convinced Madison to follow suit. In May 2023, I started using Blueland cleaning products because I wanted to avoid the plastic that escapes from laundry detergent; it all felt so wasteful. Now, it’s hard to imagine ever going back. Blueland’s refillable cleaning tablets eliminate the need for single-use plastic bottles, making it easy (and satisfying) to cut down on waste while keeping our homes fresh and clean.
Who Gives a Crap: A Better Way to Stock Up
I also made the switch to Who Gives a Crap toilet paper in October 2024, and naturally, Madison followed. Why? I sought an alternative solution to the waste caused by big brands, which often fail to adopt sustainable practices due to the pressure to maintain profits. And of course I love the name! Who Gives a Crap is made from 100% recycled paper or bamboo, eliminating the need for virgin tree pulp. Plus, the brand donates 50% of its profits to improving global sanitation, making it a good choice for both the planet and people in need.
The Long-Term Benefits
Sustainability isn’t just about reducing waste; it’s about rethinking consumption. While switching to eco-friendly products might seem like an initial investment, the long-term savings speak for themselves. Instead of constantly repurchasing disposable products, refilling and reusing means spending less over time. Plus, knowing that we’re making choices that align with our values? That’s priceless.
Treating Our Homes Like Ourselves
We all strive to put good things into our bodies, clean ingredients, fresh food, and products that nourish us. So why not do the same for our homes? Our living spaces should be treated with the same care and intention. After all, a home isn’t just where we live, it’s where we recharge, connect with living spaces, and create memories. By making small, thoughtful swaps, we’re building an environment that reflects how we want to live: sustainably, intentionally, and beautifully.
So here’s our challenge: What swap can you make today for a healthier home and planet?
